Frequently Asked Questions

QHow is your test preparation service different from those of national providers?

A

All test prep providers teach similar strategies, which have proven effective over time. However, our service surpasses others by offering one-on-one coaching. Our instruction is flexible in order to best meet the needs of each student. We identify a student’s individual strengths and weaknesses to help him or her improve in the areas that are most challenging. In doing so, we maximize each student’s potential for success.

By choosing our online program, you receive these services at a price that is significantly more affordable. You also have access to a wider selection of convenient appointment times. It is simply smarter to take advantage of the technology available today.

QWhat are the keys to success on the SAT and ACT?

A

The SAT and ACT are skill-based examinations. Preparation for these tests does not involve excessive memorization. Rather, students can best prepare by developing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Building good habits is the most important key to success. Students must learn to focus and recognize patterns in order to eliminate wrong answers quickly.

One-on-one tutoring is the most effective way to teach students how to apply the necessary strategies. When students combine these strategies with good test-taking habits, difficult problems appear logical and easy.

QHow does the SAT work? How is the test scored?

A

The SAT is an approximately 3.5 hour long examination that is administered on a regular basis throughout the school year. It tests students in three separate subject areas: Critical Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. The vast majority of the exam questions are multiple choice. However, students provide their own answers for a small portion of the Mathematics questions. In addition, students compose a short essay which is evaluated by professional readers.

Each of the three SAT subject areas is scored on an 800 point scale, for a total possible score of 2400.

QHow does online tutoring work? What technology is required?

A

Online tutoring works in much the same way as regular tutoring. Students meet face to face with trained tutors via videoconferencing software, which may be downloaded for free. The only technology required is a computer and high speed internet connection.
